The fastest and most effective way to self-exclude is to enrol in the national self-exclusion register in your market. Each scheme uses your national ID (BankID, MitID, DigiD, or a government form) to lock you out of every licensed operator at once. Operator-by-operator exclusion is slower and only covers the sites you personally register on.

What happens after you enrol.
Existing accounts at licensed operators in your market are frozen. Balances remain yours and can be withdrawn, a self-exclusion scheme cannot confiscate funds. All marketing to you must stop within days. New account signups are blocked at the licensed operators the scheme covers.
For most schemes, the exclusion cannot be lifted for the duration you chose. Sweden and Denmark specifically block reversal for at least 12 months on indefinite enrolments, this is by design, to make the tool effective against impulsive re-entry.

Block gambling transactions at your bank. Most UK banks (Monzo, Starling, Barclays, Lloyds) offer a one-tap gambling block in the app that stops merchant-coded gambling transactions from clearing. Nordic banks have similar tools. This is a second layer of protection on top of national self-exclusion.
